Mindful Eating is a new research-based approach to healthy & balanced eating. An easy to learn practice of gaining awareness off ow you eat & reconnecting with the joy of eating  

Our fast, often stressful, pace of life leads to a loss of connection with our basic needs such as food, hydration, rest, enjoyment. We disconnect from important body senses such as hunger, satiety, thirst and we often begin ‘using food’ for comfort, stress, boredom, loneliness through food cravings and binge eating. We also learn to apply strict ‘food rules’ that often cause more stress and negative emotions in our life and can distort our body image.

In this 6-week course we will introduce new, easy to use, skills of mindful eating with he goal of reconnecting with the enjoyment of eating, gaining awareness of our basic needs and accepting and loving ourselves and our bodies. You will learn how to listen to your body’s needs, your likes & dislikes, so you can satisfy instead of depriving yourself.

The course consists of four 90 minutes long weekly sessions and a 4 hour session three weeks later, that will cover the following topics:

- Awareness of how we eat  - Negative body image
- Connection to hunger and fullness signals  - Weight management
- Emotional triggers of over-eating  - Savouring food 

Dr Fenia Giannopoulou is an Eating Behavior-Nutrition Specialist & Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology, University of Brighton. She’s the founder of Mindful.Eating.Brighton. She runs workshops & 1-1 consultations on metabolic testing and nutrition for health, weight management and exercise performance.
